Major Damage!
June 30th, 2006The first loss of film came only weeks after completion! After getting favorable reviews from the cinematography class, I was asked to show the film at a Communications departmental meeting. Acting as the projectionist, I wasn’t quite proficient in the use of the old Super8 projector. Before the meeting started I threaded the film and started it rolling into the first scene. I stopped the film but the bulb was still on and to my horror noticed the film begining to melt on the screen! I quickly turned it off, but the damage was done, a nice big brown hole in a couple of frames, luckly it didn’t burn completely through so I didn’t have to make a splice.

The first “subliminal.”
June 27th, 2006The Flash player doesn’t make it easy to step through the footage, so here’s a closer look at the quick shots I inserted. The first one occurs right after the title screen and is a b/w pinup girl photo from a Myrtle Beach tourist booklet. You can also see her in the background of the desk shots hanging on the wall over the calendar. In the belief that “sex sells” we attempted to make the movie a little more appealing than it was, or at least to the all male dorm where we lived. The horror films of our childhood almost always included some form of overt sexuality, so it must have seemed fitting at the time to add it to ours.
